Being unfit and obese increases risk of breast cancer

Being slim is not enough to ward off breast cancer – experts say that it isexercise that is crucial to avoiding the disease, reports [s]The Daily Telegraph[/s]. Swedish researchers questioned more than 19,000 women with an average age of 56 about their health and lifestyles and then checked on their health 13 years later. The link with exercise applied whatever the participants’ weight. However, the report notes, weight is still an important factor. [b]Professor Trolle Lagerros[/b] told the World Obesity Congress that being overweight raised a woman’s risk of the disease, even if she exercised. Being obese raised the odds of breast cancer by 58% while being merely overweight increased the likelihood by 20%. The women at greatest risk of all were inactive and obese.
