Nursing Services Manager

Clinical / Professional focus

  • Set policy, protocols, guidelines and procedures for the clinic, frail care and assisted living
  • Ensure adherence to SANC professional standards
  • Remain current on professional rules and regulations
  • Promote clinical governance and service improvements through the analysis of complaints, adverse events and other change drivers

Daily operations management

  • Monitor and maintain standards of clinical practice
  • Provide visible and accessible leadership creating a climate where individuals understand their roles and responsibilities and people are empowered to be effective in their role
  • Establish and maintain a presence through regular daily rounds with other nurses and/or doctors
  • Ensure highest standards of care
  • Continuously improve the residents’ experience
  • Be visible in frail care and assisted living and act as a resource for both staff and residents
  • Lead by example
  • Responsible for maintaining standards of cleanliness
  • Monitor and manage risk
  • Work with others to ensure the highest quality meal/nutritional experience for residents
  • Ensure facilities and furniture are well maintained
  • Speak regularly with residents, their relatives and staff to ensure that appropriate innovation occurs
  • Develop a culture of respect within the department towards residents and each other
  • Act as deputy to Chief Operating Officer as and when necessary
  • Investigate and act on complaints
  • Promote standards and behaviours/approaches so that all concerns raised are dealt with appropriately and swiftly and meet the residents needs
  • Ensure that staff maintain accurate and contemporaneous records
  • Ensure appropriate care via individualised care plans
  • Address poor practice and put in place procedure to change practice going forward
  • Form positive relationships with all stakeholder including doctors
  • Facilitate resident referrals where required
  • Participate in interviews and assess pre-admission residents
  • Provide reports to Chief Operating Officer as required
  • Provide monthly movement statistics to the Financial Accountant
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety policy. Report any safety risks promptly

Human Resources Management

  • Responsible for developing staff and maintaining clinical standards within department
  • Develop a learning environment for all staff
  • Ensure have sufficient staff for shifts through planning and use of appropriate agencies
  • Responsible for the performance management of staff within department
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action against staff when required and in line with HR policy
  • Promotion of staff wellness
  • Ensure adherence to HR policies and procedures
  • Allocate staff and their duties appropriately
  • Ensure that staff receive necessary training

Infection Control

  • Ensure appropriate protocol is in place
  • Train staff on the necessary protocol
  • Keep track of infections, identify risks and solutions
  • Educate residents and staff about infection control
  • Ensure adequate facilities for hand washing / cleanliness
  • Support staff in raising concerns over infection prevalence and ensure appropriate action is taken
