Cloud computing system being used to treat brain cancer

IBM is teaming up with the New York Genome Centre to help fight brain cancer, reports [s]Health24[/s]. The company's Watson cloud computing system will be used mainly to help sequence DNA for the treatment of glioblastoma, the most common type of brain cancer in US adults. The report says what makes Watson unique is that instead of relying on the information that's put into it, Watson learns by ‘reading’ vast amounts of information and combining it with the results of previous work to find answers to heavy-data problems. Watson will sequence the DNA of cancer tumours at much faster rate than would be possible by a human. The DNA information will then be combined with clinical information to help determine the best way to treat a particular patient.
