Councillor guilty of stealing mobile clinic

Pongola Councillor Lukha Nxumalo has been found guilty of stealing a municipal mobile clinic, says a report pn IOL. Nxumalo was sentenced to four years in prison or a fine of R20,000 on charges of theft.

The KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has ordered that the Pongola District Municipality hold a council committee hearing centred on the conduct of Nxumalo 'to ascertain whether this councillor has not violated the code of conduct which all councillors have to observe'.

The DA said councillor Luke Nxumalo should be dismissed for stealing from the people who had elected him to office, while the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, called for council to institute a hearing to investigate the appropriate action.
