Gynaecologist fined

[s]The Times[/s] reports that Johannesburg gynaecologist Dr Kazeem Okanlomo has been fined R15,000 for unprofessional conduct by the Health Professions Council of SA for failing to examine adequately a patient who miscarried later that day. Okanlomo admitted that he did not do a cervical examination, which might have alerted him to an imminent miscarriage. But, he said, the examination would only have enabled him to ‘counsel my patient and prepare her for the inevitable spontaneous termination of her pregnancy’.
