IRR: 10 days to save healthcare in South Africa

19 November marks the start of a ten-day countdown to save healthcare in South Africa.

On 29 November, public comment on the ANC’s disastrous National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme closes. This scheme will see the end of healthcare in South Africa as we know it. The NHI will make an Eskom out of the healthcare of all South Africans.

It is undisputed that healthcare and access to healthcare is a huge problem the country faces. Millions suffer the injustice every day of being exposed to the uncaring and unaccountable health service provided by the State. Yet, the State has used mountains of regulations to make market-based solutions to our healthcare crisis impossible. Instead of heeding the shocking failure of NHI pilot projects, and improving state-run healthcare for those left to face the consequences of the ANC’s disastrous economic policy, the government is determined to manage the healthcare of ordinary hard-working South Africans as it is managing Eskom.

The cruel risk is that, just as the State’s management of Eskom leads to load shedding, its management of NHI will lead to life shedding.

This video shows the great danger the NHI poses to South Africans. It includes a link in the description to the page where South Africans register their opposition and say “No!” to the NHI.

The IRR today sent this video to thousands of South Africans who have joined it in its fight for a better South Africa for all.

“As always, South Africans will step up to save the country from the failures inflicted on it by politicians. Together we can stop the NHI – we must,” says IRR campaigns co-ordinator Hermann Pretorius.
