KZN Health pays parents

Two sets of parents of children born with severe disabilities, due to medical negligence by state health workers when their mothers were in labour, have been awarded an interim combined sum of R230 000 in a civil claim.

[s]IOL[/s] reports that the money is for current medical, post therapy and caregivers’ expenses. In both cases, the KZN Health Department conceded liability, agreeing to pay 90 percent of the total proven damages, which will be determined after further court action next year.
