Med aid ‘death spiral’

The [b]SA Treasury’s[/b] latest proposals for regulating health insurance are poorly drafted and threaten to send the medical schemes industry into a ‘death spiral’, a leading health economist has warned. Professor Alex van den Heever, chair of social security at the [b]University of the Witwatersrand[/b], said the revised proposals were ‘unclear, open ended… (and) represent an unprecedented threat to the viability of the medical schemes system’.
