Open-access CPD points for SA health professionals

South African health professionals are now be able to earn their CPD points free and online by watching medical lectures and presentations on Medtalkz. Medtalkz is an open platform providing a library of up to date lectures and presentations recorded at prestigious conferences, refresher courses and lecture halls countrywide.

Medtalkz founder, Dr Brian Levy believes that by providing CPD-accredited content, Medtalkz is creating greater access to healthcare professionals to learn from some of South Africa’s greatest medical minds. “South Africa is privileged to have an active CME environment through conferences, lectures and refresher courses. But the valuable content delivered at these events is often lost to those who are unable to attend and is effectively lost once it has been delivered”, says Levy.

Medtalkz records, catalogues and stores this content online, thereby safeguarding it for the future and making it accessible to all South African healthcare professionals, regardless of discipline or location.

Levy adds that the rationale behind the creation of Medtalkz was a combination of the need for health professionals to stay up to date in an environment that is rapidly developing and the need for smarter learning methods that take into account the time pressures faced by doctors, nurses, medical students and other health professionals.

The site currently houses over 400 lectures across most fields of medicine, including allied health disciplines.

Access to the site is free for use by registered health professionals.

“It is important to Medtalkz, as a not-for-profit entity to be able to offer this content free to the industry, thereby supporting greater access to medical education now and into the future”, concludes Levy.
