Operations Manager

BARC-SA is a specialist boutique laboratory for clinical trials based in Johannesburg, South Africa, looking for an Operations Manager with the ability to “see the big picture”; oversee pre-analytical, analytical, post-analytical and the support departments (procurement, manufacturing) of the company.  The key responsibilities include: ensure efficiently management of labour, productivity, quality control and safety measures; enhance the operational procedures, systems and principles in the areas of information flow and management, business processes and enhanced management reporting; Work closely with the Medical Director and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems to follow through with implementation.  Furthermore, the operations manager will be involved in achieving the strategic goals of BARC-SA-one of which is to increase the BARC-SA footprint within the Africa continent.

This is a high level management position and the person is expected to be able to make quick decisions in various different departments to ensure smooth running of the business; have conflict resolution skills; have knowledge of the regulatory environment for laboratory aspects of clinical trials; have strong organisational and decision making skills; deal with all levels of employees and various departments within the company; be deadline driven; be able to keep on top of all day to day operations while at the same time being able to look forward and anticipate future problems.

Qualifications: Relevant degree or diploma in the clinical pathology field; Management degree or diploma would be an advantage.  8-10 years of management experience preferably at an interdepartmental level, have experience working in a clinical pathology laboratory, and have an understanding of the laboratory aspect of clinical trials. Remuneration will be in line with job function and previous experience.
