Non-Executive Director from South Africa. The Medical Protection Society

Medical

We are the world’s leading member-owned, not-for-profit organisation protecting the careers, reputations and financial security of doctors, dentists, healthcare professionals and organisations around the world. Founded in 1892 in London and operating in RSA since 1957, we take pride in the vital part we play within healthcare delivery by providing expert advice and support to more than 300,000 members worldwide.

We are seeking a Non-Executive Director from South Africa to join our Council (which is the Board of Directors of MPS and responsible for the running of MPS and its long-term success) to provide challenge and support to the Executive team, ensuring that MPS continues to thrive long into the future providing expert advice and support that our members trust and value.

As a Council member you are the voice of our members and are integral to our success; helping to shape and drive our ambitious business strategy.  You will understand the complexities of working in the healthcare profession and ideally this will be on a global scale.

You will be required to demonstrate high levels of integrity and be able to role model outstanding standards of quality, probity and governance. With the ability to listen and constructively challenge in a board environment, your commitment and engagement with your fellow non-Executive Directors and our Executive team will be critical to ensure delivery of financial and strategic business objectives and ultimately a successful business for our members.

Medical Protection Society is committed to creating a Board that reflects the diversity of the members we serve across our international markets. We welcome applications from doctors currently working in the South African healthcare market, who are members of MPS and ideally have private practice experience. Some previous governance experience would also be beneficial.

Approximate annual commitment will be around 12 days a year for Council and Sub-Committee meetings. Time will also be required to prepare for meetings and attend any professional development.

Meetings are mainly held in central London and on occasion in our Leeds office. Although personal attendance is preferred virtual meetings can be facilitated, when necessary.

More information about our Council can be found on our website:  https://www.medicalprotection.org/uk/about/organisation-and-finance/mps-council

To submit an application, please send a CV and short covering letter, including your MPS membership number, to careers@medicalprotection.org for the attention of Sarah Speechly.
