Scientists construct human gene ‘atlas’

Based on achievements of the Human Genome Project, scientists from the RIKEN Centre for Life Science Technologies in Japan have constructed an ‘atlas’ that maps the ways human genes are turned on and off. According to [s]News Tonight[/s], the international team of researchers said that the new gene-activity map illustrates those networks that govern genes’ activity in major cells and tissues in the human body. For the first time researchers have been able to find out regions of genome that can be active in a disease and in normal activity. The significant implication of the ‘atlas’ is that it can help find out exact locations for the key genetic variants that maps disease in cells.
