South Africa has recorded four new lab-confirmed mpox cases, bringing the cumulative national total to 26 cases since 1 January 2026, up from 22, as health authorities intensify surveillance and urge the public to stay alert for symptoms, reports The Citizen.
Although detected across five provinces, most of the infections are in the Western Cape: 25 of the 26 are male, aged between 23 and 50.
The National Department of Health said the latest figures highlighted the need for continued public awareness and early reporting of symptoms, while healthcare workers have also been urged to remain on the alert when assessing patients with possible symptoms and to follow infection prevention and control protocols.
