‘Alarming’ shortages at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital – Health MEC

[b]Gauteng[/b] Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu has admitted the biggest hospital in the southern Hemisphere, [b]Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital[/b] in [b]Soweto[/b], Johannesburg, is short staffed. According to a [s]Health24[/s] report, Mahlangu said the problems she had been told of in the neonatal, paediatric, and maternity wards were alarming. The shortage of doctors and lack of equipment had to be addressed urgently. Mahlangu said the problems would not be fixed overnight, but called on all in the sector to work together for better service. She added that her office would also look into the problemsexperienced at the newly opened [b]Jabulani Hospital[/b]. It was supposed to alleviate the backlog at Baragwanath, which was not happening.
