Bloemfontein hospital worker found guilty of raping 12-year-old patient

A Bloemfontein hospital worker has been convicted of raping a 12-year-old patient who was incapacitated and unable to speak after suffering two strokes, Volksblad reports.

Bloemfontein Regional Court Magistrate Jan Greyvenstein has convicted Stephen Macwili (33) of raping the patient in the Life Pasteur Hospital in the city on 5 December 2014. Greyvenstein said Macwili chose the “perfect victim” as she was trapped in her body, but he made the mistake of thinking she was not intellectually sound. The victim wrote her rapist’s name on a piece of paper.

The report says the court heard that colleagues saw him placing the patient in a wheelchair and taking her out of the ward. Macwili’s bail was withdrawn and sentencing proceedings start this week.
