Business lashes Ramaphosa over lockdown uncertainty

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s silence on the possible return to lockdown level two regulations is upsetting the business community, Die Burger reports.

Business for SA (B4SA) has issued a statement lashing the president for the uncertainty. ‘Certainty that SA will not return to a more strict lockdown – regardless of infection rates – will stimulate economic activity by unlocking investment projects of businesses and spending plans of consumers. It is currently being postponed due to concerns about the government’s reaction to a potential second wave of infections’, B4SA’s Mark Kingston said.

Ramaphosa was said to be planning a national address last week, which did not materialise. Media reports have indicated Ramaphosa will address the country this week, but no address has been confirmed. Some 2.2m people lost their jobs in the second quarter of the year, according to the latest job statistics released last week.
