Critical Care Society of SA: Prof Brenda Morrow to lead World Federation

The Critical Care Society of Southern Africa (CCSSA) is pleased to announce that executive council member, Professor Brenda Morrow, has been elected to lead the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies (WFPICCS) following its conference in July 2022.

This election is especially significant as Professor Morrow will be the first female President of the Society and the first president who is not a physician.

Professor Morrow, who is a physiotherapist by training, is a full professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Cape Town and works clinically at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Brenda is an active clinician-scientist with special interests in interdisciplinary paediatric critical care practice and research; cardiopulmonary rehabilitation; palliative care; and medical ethics.

With over 100 peer reviewed publications and 13 book chapters, Professor Morrow is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Southern African Journal of Critical Care, Senior Associate Editor for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and sits on the Editorial Boards of PlosOne and Frontiers in Paediatrics.

“I am honoured to have been elected to this position and believe that my election is testament to the WFPICCS’ commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to paediatric critical care. I pledge my commitment to the members of the WFPICCS”, says Morrow.
