Former Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku said he is appealing against a finding by an ANC disciplinary committee that he had brought the party into disrepute over dubious contracts for PPE worth millions of rands. “I have already filed a notice with the ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule’s office, because that’s where appeals are handled,” Masuku said.
According to a Business Day report, ANC Gauteng spokesperson Bones Modise said Masuku is well within his rights to appeal. The provincial executive committee “can’t amend decisions of the provincial disciplinary committee. Ours is to implement the decisions,” he said.
The report notes a week ago Masuku lost a court bid to set aside a report by the Special Investigating Unit that he knew about his department’s irregular procurements and failed to execute his functions in compliance with the Constitution and the Public Finance Management Act.
