Harare lab owned by former Health minister linked to COVID-19 'scam'

A private laboratory, reportedly owned by disgraced Zimbabwean Health Minister Obadiah Moyo, is accused of issuing fake COVID-19 certificates to international travellers without them going through testing processes.

Moyo was dismissed from government duties last year following charges of flouting a COVID-19 government tender. He was arrested and the matter is pending before the courts.

New Zimbabwe reports that staff members at Klosad Clinical Diagnostics Lab in Harare are accused of running the scam.

The ‘syndicate’ is allegedly producing the COVID-19 certificates at a price of US$45 each instead of the recommended US$65 charged by most registered institutions for a legitimate test that is a prerequisite for international travel.
