Western Cape hospital fire under investigation

An investigation has been launched into a fire which broke out at the Caledon Provincial Hospital on Thursday night, last week, reports News24. The fire, which started at around 22:00, affected one of the wards in the hospital's west wing.

The flames were doused after three hours, said Western Cape Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning MEC Anton Bredell.

"The hospital staff had already executed their disaster plan and the areas closest to the fire were evacuated swiftly. The fire services were able to contain the fire to one ward only, thereby preventing further damage to the hospital. No patients or staff were injured during the incident."
