Lauren Dickason, the South African doctor who was sentenced to an effective 18 years in June for murdering her three children, intends appealing her convictions, although it is unknown at this state on what grounds her legal team plans to appeal.
The New Zealand Herald reports that her lawyers filed a "Notice of Appeal Against Conviction" in the Court of Appeal on 23 July, but that no date has yet been set for proceedings.
Dickason, who killed her daughters on 16 September 2021 in their home in Timaru, had pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty by a jury on 16 August 2023, reports News24, and has been in Hillmorton Hospital mental health unit since her arrest.
It is up to the medical authorities to determine when and if she could be transferred to prison.
She becomes eligible for parole after six years.
