Doctor arrested for drug dealing in SAPS sting

A 35-year-old doctor based at Elim Hospital in Limpopo has appeared in court facing charges of drug dealing after he was arrested during a tactical sting operation by police. Health-e News reports that the doctor was arrested along with an accomplice during a police bust in Watervaal near Makhado earlier this month.

Limpopo Health has issued a statement condemning criminal acts of distribution illegal drugs especially that seek to undermine their efforts to fight against drugs abuse.

Dr Mpho Lekalakala and his co-accused Vukosi Maluleke were apprehended following a tip off that led police to a house where they were found in possession of nine sachets of nyaope, four cocaine rocks, two pipes and dagga.

The department said they will follow the case closely and provide any necessary assistance to the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the case proceeds switftly.
