In the second lab-confirmed case in the country in recent weeks, a Durban man has tested positive for mpox and been admitted to Addington Hospital, according to the national Department of Health.
The 39-year-old has no travel history to countries and regions currently experiencing outbreaks of the disease, and contact tracing has been activated, said the authorities.
IOL reports that this will also determine if the patient has any links to the first case confirmed in Gauteng earlier this month, in which a 35-year-old man tested positive.
The WHO has reported an mpox outbreak in several regions, with at least 466 lab-confirmed cases and three deaths across 22 countries.
