Ex-DG faces R86m hospital tender fraud charges

Former North West DG Dr Lydia Sebego has been arrested in connection with more than R86m hospital tender fraud, and released on R10 000 bail, the case being postponed to 31 January for the tracing of more suspects.

The Star reports that the charges relate to her tenure as the head of department in the North West Department of Health.

Also granted bail with her in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabatho on Friday were Vuyo Mbulawa, chief director at the North West Department of Health, and Lotwane Mabe, a service provider (R100 000 bail).

The trio were warned not to have any direct or indirect contact with the state’s witnesses and complainants. They were further instructed to alert the investigating officer if they planned to do any travelling.

The Hawks arrested the three last week in Mahikeng. Sebego is facing two charges of contravening the Public Finance Management Act, Mbulawa is facing 10 charges of fraud, while Mabe is charged with six counts of fraud.
