The locally made film “Doc-U-Mentally” – which highlights the extreme pressures junior doctors face in South Africa – has been released globally via Amazon, iTunes and Google Play.
Nicole Jennings, spokesperson for Pharma Dynamics said in a report in The Citizen: “We believed in the message of the film from the word go and knew it would serve as a strong catalyst for change by giving viewers a glimpse of the kind of trauma and mayhem medical interns are exposed to in South Africa.
“Having the film available on international platforms such as Amazon and the like will also help give a voice to doctors in other countries that face similar challenges.”
Francois Wahl, director, and producer of Doc-U-Mentally cites Journeyman Films as one of the leading independent suppliers of award-winning films and documentaries to the global broadcast, digital and educational markets.
“Not many local films get picked up by an international agent such as Journeyman Films, so it’s a really big deal to have been selected by them. I’m excited to see how people from various countries react to the film and am sure they would be curious to know what medical life is like for an intern working in South Africa,” said Wahl.
The report says asked to comment on the film, the National Department of Health spokesperson Popo Maja simply said he was not aware of the global release of Doc-U-Mentally.
