Keyhealth placed under provisional curatorship over 'irregularities'

The Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) has placed medical scheme Keyhealth under provisional curatorship, Die Burger reports. The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) brought the application for curatorship after conducting an inspection at the scheme.

Keyhealth is one of the larger open schemes with R2.1bn worth of member contributions collected from 67 000 members in 2019. The court was told that the CMS had found several irregularities during the inspection. These included an allegation that the board of trustees was not properly constituted and the principal officer not properly appointed.

The report says principal officer Barry Kruger declined to comment on the development.

Johannes Seolane will act as provisional curator of the scheme and take over the functions of the trustees and management.
