New guidelines on lumbar spine fusion procedures

Experts in the spine surgery community have banded together to evaluate the recent literature on lumbar spine fusion procedures and to publish up-to-date evidence-based recommendations on their use. [s]Science Daily[/s] reports that the updated guidelines replace the first set of guidelines published in 2005. The authors said: ‘These guidelines are not intended to provide rigid treatment algorithms. Instead, it is hoped that this update will … provide the a foundation to formulate an appropriate individualised treatment plan for a given patient.’
