Allegations of patients being fondled in a doctor’s rooms, sexually charged remarks and unwanted kissing have been made on social media against a Port Elizabeth medical practitioner and talk show host. And, says a report in The Herald, now Mthembeni Tebelele has turned to the courts in a desperate bid to stop the sexual assault allegations made by a string of women on social media.
Accusing three of his former patients in papers filed with the Port Elizabeth High Court of having embarked on an assassination of his good character, he is demanding an unconditional retraction and apology, and has documented exactly what he wants them to say.
The women will defend the matter, according to their lawyer, Tracey Lomax-Nixon, of Access to Justice.
Tebelele said in the report that the women’s conduct remained unlawful because they had opted to take the law into their own hands instead of reporting the alleged sexual assaults to the police.
SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu said that the station had taken note of the allegations against one of its talk show hosts. “The SABC recognises the prevalence of violence against women and children in our society and the corporation finds such acts unacceptable. The SABC strongly condemns such offensive behaviour and appeals to all affected to approach the legal authorities and report their matter to enable the authorities to carry out investigations,” Mthembu said.
