Police nab man posing as Eastern Cape hospital doctor

A man posing as a medical doctor was arrested at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha last week, after a nurse, who spotted the man posing as a teacher on social media, raised the alarm.

Eastern Cape Department of Health spokesperson Siyanda Manana said the imposter was seen in the ENT ward wearing a white coat with two stethoscopes around his neck. Before being apprehended by the police, he had also been seen in a surgical ward on a different floor.

Manana told AlgoaFM the man had not “examined” any patients, and that the department appreciated the vigilance shown by staff in protecting the patients.

“A team has been assigned to work with SAPS to trace his family and facilitate admission at our psychiatric unit for treatment and rehabilitation,” he added.
