Proper healthcare at birth would save millions of lives

The lives of 3m mothers and new-born babies could be saved every year if they received proper healthcare, especially during birth. [s]Health-e[/s] reports that this is according to medical journal [s]The Lancet[/s], which recently released a special series on new-borns. Pre-term births, labour complications like suffocation, and infections including sepsis are the leading causes of deaths among babies 28 days after birth. The most common causes of death related to a shortage of health workers and resources. Less than 3% of babies in countries with high mortality rates had access to intensive care units.
