A Gqeberha prosthetist was arrested and appeared in court last week for allegedly defrauding the Road Accident Fund (RAF) to the tune of R290 000.
Ruan Lundt (37) was released on a warning and ordered to appear again on 23 August – giving him time to obtain legal representation, reports HeraldLIVE.
It’s alleged that in 2022, Lundt had submitted quotes with seven claims to the RAF under both his company’s name and that of Moolman Orthopaedics – without its knowledge.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the quotes were orchestrated to ensure Lundt’s company would be selected instead of Moolman Orthopaedics, and a payout of more than R290 000 allegedly paid to his company as the first tranche.
When the claims were flagged, the matter was referred to the Hawks, “saving the RAF further potential prejudice of more than R440 000”, Mgolodela said.
