Renowned Cape Town surgeon Professor Raoul de Villiers, who worked alongside heart transplant pioneer Professor Christiaan Barnard when the two were still laboratory researchers, has died after a four-year long battle with cancer. He was of 84. De Villiers was a respected surgeon who taught at the [b]UCT Medical School[/b] for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1995.
