A local heart spec ialist made history when he became the first spec ialist in Africa to treat a patient with atrial fibrillation by using the latest frozen balloon technology, reports [s]SABC News[/s]. The cryoballoon ablation procedure, performed by electrophysiologist [b]Dr Razeen Gopal[/b], is a technique where a frozen balloon is inserted into the left chamber of a patient’s heart to eliminate cells that cause the heart to beat faster than normal. Previous treatment procedures have had little success.
