SA procedures for handling and disposal of mortal remains amended

Procedures to be followed when handling and disposing of mortal remains during the COVID-19 State of Disaster were amended on Friday and are immediately effective, notes Pam Saxby in a Legalbrief Policy Watch report. They apply to mortuaries, undertakers, crematoria, burials and all related activities, replacing the relevant sub-directions in a directive issued on 17 July 2020.

This is noting the special measures taken when handling COVID-19 remains. A sub-direction allowing people entering South Africa to apply for and be granted exemption from quarantine has been removed.
