SAMA chairperson stabbed in Durban

Chairperson of the SA Medical Association (SAMA) Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa, a GP in KwaZulu-Natal, was stabbed repeatedly in an attack on a Durban highway.

Mzukwa was on his way home from King Shaka International Airport on Saturday when he was attacked.

News 24 reports that Mzukwa drove himself to hospital after the attack and is now in ICU. Deputy Health Minister Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo said Mzukwa was recovering well.

Chairperson of the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health Dr Kenneth Jacobs said Mzukwa was attacked on the side of the road after a SAMA board meeting.

“The committee condemns this act of criminality and barbarism … we call on motorists to be extra vigilant as criminals are becoming more ruthless every day.”
