Two nationals from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been arrested and charged with contravening the Health Professions Act after they were found working as doctors in the Northern Cape.
Both were unregistered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), reports News24.
HPCSA spokesperson Christopher Tsatsawane said their Inspectorate Office and Delportshoop police had carried out a raid last Tuesday (2 November) “aimed at eradicating unregistered practitioners working for Dr MJ Amsani”.
They found Jonathan Ilunga Kilumba, who had apparently been working at one of Amsani’s practices since 5 October 2020, and in a separate inspection at another practice also owned by Amsani, another unlicensed DRC national Josue Katshelewa Luhanga, who had been employed since May 2021. Both were arrested for [Contravention of the Health Professions Act] and detained by the SAPS.
Although Amsani was actively registered with the HPCSA, he would be reported to the Medical and Dental Professions Board.
