A doctor has been released on $250 000 bail after his arrest in a child endangerment case in Ohio in which an infant was left with numerous broken bones.
WTVG News reports that Dr Hanuman Gowda (31), who was a doctor at ProMedica Hospital in Monroe, was arrested on 9 January and charged with four counts of endangering a child and two counts of felonious assault.
His case has been sent to a grand jury. Filings show the courts issued a no-contact order, prohibiting Gowda from seeing the child.
Gowda and another person had taken the 10-week-old baby to Toledo Hospital for a check-up on 4 January because it appeared the infant was in pain, the police report said.
The child had suffered numerous bone fractures of both arms, upper and lower parts of its legs, and three ribs.
Scans showed the fractures happened across multiple incidents, as they were in various states of healing. The two denied knowing how any of the injuries happened.
The other caregiver told officials that only she and Gowda had cared for the baby since birth.
Hospital staff thought the injuries were not accidental and reported concerns of potential child abuse to authorities. Gowda was charged a week later.
A spokesperson for ProMedica confirmed Gowda is a resident physician and is now on leave.
