Kimberley doctor guilty of SARS tax dodge

A Northern Cape medical doctor has been found guilty of failing to declare his personal income tax to the South African Revenue Services (SARS) over a seven-year period, effectively depriving the national tax services of more than R17m.

Fabian Royston Tun (55), who was convicted in the Kimberley Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, had not submitted personal income tax returns from 2015 until 2022, said the Hawks.

IOL reports that Tun was found guilty of contravention of  the Tax Administration Act and found guilty on eight counts of failure to submit personal income tax and 42 counts of failure to submit Value Added Tax (VAT) returns.

The matter has been postponed to 30 July for sentencing.
