New app helps graduates find work experience

Profmed, the medical aid for professionals, is connecting graduate doctors with locum opportunities to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

In South Africa, patients often travel two to three hours, only to spend five or six more hours in queues to receive medical attention. Meanwhile, young doctors – trained and eager to contribute – struggle to find employment.

This disparity has led Profmed to act, leveraging its resources and network to alleviate the strain on both patients and the healthcare system

Last week saw the launch of finDR by Profmed, a platform designed to bridge the gap between qualified young doctors seeking work and medical facilities in need of medical graduate support.

Profmed CEO Craig Comrie said, “With more than 800 qualified doctors desperate for employment opportunities, we’re bringing this service to market at a critical time. It’s time to make a bigger dent in patient waiting times in South African healthcare.”

He added that finDR was born out of Profmed’s long-standing commitment to support the medical profession, which has been a core mission since the 1960s.

“With finDR, we’re not only addressing the employment gap among doctors but also easing the pressure on our healthcare system, making quality care more accessible across South Africa.”

How finDR Works

The finDR platform connects young, unemployed doctors with healthcare practices, clinics, and other organisations that require their skills. By facilitating these connections, finDR provides young professionals with the opportunity to start their careers and offer their talents to communities in need.

Healthcare practitioners countrywide are encouraged to join the platform, helping to create job opportunities for the next generation of doctors while enriching their own practices.

Comrie adds that Profmed will escalate adoption by helping medical professionals get the start they need by offering the first 100 sign-ups a complimentary six-month Profmed medical aid membership.

Why Join finDR?

● Empower Young Doctors: finDR offers South Africa’s young doctors the chance to work, grow professionally, and build a future in medicine while addressing urgent healthcare needs.
● Benefit Your Practice: Practices gain access to motivated young doctors who bring fresh perspectives and the latest medical knowledge, enhancing patient care.
● Be Part of the Solution: Profmed members are uniquely positioned to actively contribute to a more robust and equitable healthcare system.

Profmed calls on healthcare practices, clinics, and organisations to join finDR and become a part of the healthcare solution. By signing up, medical facilities will have access to a curated pool of young doctors ready to make an impact and hit the ground running.
