How addict Jesus survived South Africa’s drug epidemic

JesusA heroin-based drug cocktail called nyaope, or whoonga, is destroying young lives in South African townships. BBC Africa Eye crime reporter Golden Mtika finds an old family friend, Jesus, addicted to the drug and scavenging in an open sewer.

Nyaope (whoonga) is a heroin-based drug, often mixed with antiretroviral medication or rat poison, and can be injected or smokes with cannabis.

While Jesus goes into rehab, Mtika goes in search of the dealers who bribe the police and push the drug. But will Jesus get clean?
