Counselling and guidance techniques developed in the West may not be appropriate for many [b]African[/b] countries, where cultural influences, government policies and the availability of resources can have significant implications. [s]News-Medical[/s] reports that a special issue of the [i]British Journal of Guidance & Counselling[/i] has been published as a contribution, to bring together exemplars of research reports and case studies of professional practice from across Africa. Edited by Dr Stephen Goss of the [b]Metanoia Institute, Middlesex University[/b], and Dr Olusegun Adebowale of [b]Obafemi Awolowo University, N[b][/b]igeria[/b], the special issue aims to address the ‘academic trap’ of treating the continent as if it were one place.
