A Limpopo speech therapist and audiologist, Dr Lesiba Morgan Gololo, has been released on R1 500 bail after appearing in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court facing fraud charges of more than R1.2m.
The spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in Limpopo, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, said that between January 2014 and November 2016, Gololo had allegedly submitted false documents to Bonitas medical aid scheme claiming expenses in cases where he did not provide services.
IOL reports that the specialist had conducted an awareness campaign at Zebediela.
“The attendees completed his attendance register whereafter, using their personal details, he submitted claims to Bonitas, alleging he provided them with hearing devices,” said Mmuroa.
“The claims were processed, with Bonitas suffering a loss of more than R1.2m.”
The matter will resume in court on 1 February.
