A woman who posed as a doctor at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital has been arrested and is due to appear in court, according to the Gauteng Department of Health, which said the impersonator was handed over to the police last week and spent a night in custody.
A case has been opened with the Rabasotho Police Station, said department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba, who told News24 the incident was being investigated by both the facility management and SAPS to establish how she had gained access to the hospital.
Last year, another bogus doctor made headlines when the department opened a criminal case against Gauteng TikTokker “Dr Matthew Lani”, who was arrested after security guards caught him walking around the wards at Helen Joseph Hospital with a stethoscope around his neck.
He had convinced scores of social media followers that he was a qualified medical professional.
Lani was released from police custody when the National Prosecuting Authority decided there was insufficient evidence to charge him.
