Professor Glenda Gray came into the public eye during the Covid-19 pandemic when her expertise with epidemics made her a key player in South Africa’s early response to the crisis. But long before Covid, and away from the spotlight, Gray has been a strong and steady force in SA’s battle with HIV/AIDS, from when the disease was first making an impact in the 80s, through the years of AIDS denialism, and now at the forefront of a new clinical trial to develop a vaccine against HIV.
