FDA authorises Pfizer COVID booster for children aged 5-11

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given the go-ahead to a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11, reports Reuters. Currently, just 28.8% of that age group are fully jabbed, representing the lowest vaccination coverage out of all groups.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still needs to sign off on the vaccines before they can be administered.

The government has been pushing for eligible Americans to get boosters after data that show vaccine immunity wanes over time, and it recently gave the nod to a second booster for people 50 and older. Roughly 102.3m people have received a first booster dose.
