Two people, one a former acting finance manager at a state hospital, appeared in court last week charged with defrauding the Department of Health of R1m between 2000 and 2001. They were each released on R1,000 bail.
Charity Moloi, who was the acting finance manager at Grey’s Hospital at the time, and Ndumiso Ngcobo, appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court last Thursday (18 August) Thursday, reports IOL.
Both were charged with fraud and money laundering.
Natasha Kara, provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, said t Moloi is accused of defrauding the Health Department of more than R1m by misrepresenting to the hospital that Grace SN Projects 53 Pty Ltd was a legitimate service provider and entitled to payments from the Department.
“The company (which was under the directorship of Ngcobo’s mother), did not perform any services and was not entitled to payments. The monies were put into the company’s bank account nonetheless.”
The matter was adjourned to 1 September.
