GP’s turn away tens of millions

GPs in the UK are being forced to turn away tens of millions of patients as demand for appointments far outstrips demand. More than 50m requests for appointments will be turned down next year as the crisis worsens.

Under-investment is leading to an overstretched service which struggles to meet patient demand, according to the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). RCGP honorary treasurer Dr Helen Stokes-Lampard said there is a concern patients who are unable to get an appointment may give up trying.
