Two of the biggest hospitals in Johannesburg were to be served with pre-disconnection notices last Thursday over millions of rands in unpaid electricity bills, according to City Power, which had in its sights on Helen Joseph and Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital.
The two owe a combined R32m to the facility.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said a cut-off programme was in progress, with the organisation targeting various defaulting businesses collectively owing about R13m, writes EWN.
“Current cut-off operations are aimed at basically sending strong messages to all defaulters that City Power will not tolerate any non-payment of services. It is also an opportunity …to recover the revenue needed to continue providing essential services and ensuring we conduct much-needed maintenance on infrastructure.”
