An armed gang held up two paramedics who were responding to a call just after midnight last week in the Shongweni area in KwaZulu-Natal.
The KZN Emergency Services ambulance, with two crew, was responding to what
police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo now believes was a false emergency call that had been lodged about a sick, elderly person who needed to go to hospital, reports IOL.
As the paramedics approached Shongweni Dam they were flagged down by two men who said they would show them where the sick person lived. On the way another two men stopped the vehicle, one producing a gun and the others hauling out knives. The paramedics were told to lie on the ground, and the gang fled with their cellphones and medical equipment worth thousands of rands.
