Lassa fever cases rise in Nigeria

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported that Lassa fever cases are continuing to rise across the country, with Edo state recording 10 new cases, bringing the total of confirmed infections in that area to 81, with eight deaths.

Between 2 and 15 January, according to NCDC director-general Ifedayo Adetifa, the country had recorded 369 suspected cases of Lassa.

Edo State Commissioner for Health Obehi Akoria said the new cases were confirmed in five local councils in the state, and that most of the deaths were people who had felt unwell but failed to go to a hospital for care until they developed complications, reports AllAfrica.
